when C heard that grandy was coming for a visit from arizona, one of the first things he said was, "good! i can play him at chess!" C learned to play chess when he was only 5 or 6 and grandy was one of his first opponents. C has really missed those games.



they played with an old hand turned/carved set that grandy bought at a flea market a long time ago to add to his collection of chess sets. it is one of the sets that he gave to the boys a few years ago, a prized possession.
i won't say who was in checkmate in the end. i think they both felt like winners!
